Ajiri Tea‘s social mission is to create employment for the people of western Kenya and educate the local orphans. Through the sale of Ajiri Tea, they hope to create a sustainable cycle of community employment and education. Ajiri means “to employ” in Swahili, the national language of Kenya.
Ajiri employes women in Kisii to handcraft the box labels, beads, and twine. All profits are sent back to the community through their donations to the Ajiri Foundation. They wanted to create a full cycle of sustainable aid. Because education is a sustainable investment, 100% of the net profits go back to Kenya to pay school fees for orphans. Ajiri Tea Company is now sponsoring 29 orphans in school and is employing four different women’s groups. In the spring of 2013, Ajiri Tea Company expanded to include Kenyan AA coffee, and maintains the mission of employment and education.
This tea is delicious!! It’s become a GWA team favorite. You’ve got to try it!
